Version 1.0 · Effective 30/10/2026 · Reviewed annually, or sooner if circumstances require
We want every student to feel safe, respected, and clear about what to expect from us — and what we expect in return. These policies set that out in plain language.
They sit alongside our terms and conditions, refund policy, and privacy policy. By enrolling on a course you agree to all of them.
These policies apply to everyone taking part in a World Peace Yoga School course or retreat, at every one of our locations — Rishikesh, Bali, Thailand, Goa, Kerala, and Nepal — and to our online courses. They cover residential and non-residential students alike.
They also bind our teachers, staff, volunteers, and anyone representing the school. Our teachers are held to the standards on this page plus the professional obligations in the Yoga Alliance Code of Conduct.
If something happens that makes you feel unsafe, harassed, or unfairly treated, you can report it directly to the school. You do not have to raise it with your teacher first. You do not have to put it in writing if you would rather speak to someone.
What happens next. We aim to acknowledge every report within two working days, look into it properly, and give you a written outcome normally within 30 days. If it is going to take longer, we will tell you why and keep you updated.
You can bring someone with you. If you would rather not raise a concern alone, you may bring a fellow student, friend, or family member to any meeting about it.
You can report anonymously. Email us without giving your name if you prefer. We will still look into it, though anonymity may limit what we can do and what we can tell you afterwards.
If your concern is about the person named above, or you would simply rather raise it with someone outside the school, you can go to Yoga Alliance instead. As a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School we are subject to their Code of Conduct, and they operate an independent grievance process for complaints about registered schools and teachers. You do not need our permission, and it will not affect your place on your course. See Yoga Alliance Standards.
World Peace Yoga School does not tolerate harassment of any student, teacher, member of staff, or visitor. This policy is our own, and enforcing it is our responsibility.
Harassment under this policy includes, but is not limited to:
Where a report is upheld, outcomes may include a formal warning, removal from teaching duties, removal from the course or the premises, or ending a teacher’s engagement with the school.
Where conduct may be a criminal matter, we will support any student who wishes to involve the local authorities, and we will not discourage them from doing so.
To report harassment, see How To Report A Concern.
Yoga teaching sometimes involves physical adjustment. At World Peace Yoga School that only happens with your consent.
If a teacher adjusts you after you have declined, or in a way that feels inappropriate, please report it — see How To Report A Concern.
Nobody will be penalized for raising a concern in good faith, or for taking part in an investigation into one. Retaliation is itself a breach of this policy, and is treated as seriously as the original complaint.
Retaliation includes being excluded from classes or activities, being marked absent unfairly, having certification withheld or delayed, losing accommodation or being moved without good reason, being singled out or frozen out, or being pressured to withdraw a report or leave a course.
This protection applies whether or not the original complaint is upheld, and it still applies if you withdraw a complaint.
If you think you are being treated differently because you raised a concern, report that the same way you reported the original matter.
Our courses are residential and often intensive, with students from many countries living and practicing together. We ask every student to:
Serious or repeated breaches may lead to removal from a course without refund. We will always give the reason in writing, and you may appeal — see Grievance Procedure.
This applies to any complaint — about teaching, accommodation, food, fees, conduct, or anything else.
We treat reports as confidentially as the circumstances allow. Information is shared only with the people who need it to investigate, or to keep someone safe.
We cannot promise absolute confidentiality. If there is a risk of serious harm, or we are legally required to report something, we may have to pass information on — and we will tell you if that happens, wherever it is safe to do so.
We keep a written record of reports and their outcomes, so that repeated problems can be identified rather than lost. Those records are handled in line with our privacy policy.
Teacher training certification depends on completing the taught hours, so students are expected to attend all scheduled classes, workshops, and assessments.
If you are unwell, injured, or need to miss a session, tell your lead teacher or the school office. Where we can, we will arrange a make-up session or adapt your practice rather than simply mark you down.
If repeated absence puts your certification at risk, we will tell you clearly and early, while there is still time to do something about it. We will not leave it until the end of a course.
Our teacher training courses are designed for adults, and the minimum age is normally 18. Applicants under 18 may join only if accompanied by a parent or guardian, or with written parental consent agreed with us in advance.
Where a student under 18 is on a course, we agree the arrangements with their parent or guardian before arrival, including accommodation and a named point of contact at the school.
Any safeguarding concern about a young person should be reported immediately using the details in How To Report A Concern, and will be treated as urgent.
Yoga is a physical practice. To teach you safely we need to know about anything relevant, so please tell us before your course starts about:
We treat that information confidentially and use it to adapt your practice. Disclosing a condition will not by itself exclude you from a course — we would far rather adapt than have you practice unsafely.
Our teachers are yoga teachers, not doctors. Nothing taught on our courses is medical advice or a substitute for treatment. If you have a medical condition, please take advice from your own doctor before enrolling.
We strongly recommend travel and medical insurance for any residential course. It is mandatory for our Himalayan treks and the Mansarovar Yatra.
Tell us what you need and we will do what we reasonably can — props and modified postures, a ground-floor or quieter room, materials in a different format, or extra time for assessment.
Some of our sites are in hill locations with steps and uneven paths, so there are real limits to what we can adapt. Ask us before you book and we will tell you honestly what is and is not workable at a given location, rather than leave you to find out on arrival.
We take photographs and video on our courses, and sometimes use them on this website and on social media.
At orientation on every residential course we give you the on-site contact, the nearest hospital or clinic, and the local emergency numbers for that location. If you have not been given those within your first day, please ask.
National emergency numbers for our locations:
In a serious emergency, call the local emergency service first, then tell a member of our staff as soon as you can.
Some of what we offer is delivered with partners — trekking and yatra operators, transport providers, and treatment centers. Where that is the case, we will tell you who the provider is.
These policies cover how we behave towards you, and we will support you in raising a concern about a partner. A partner’s own terms, insurance, and liability may also apply, so please read what they give you.
World Peace Yoga School is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School. Yoga Alliance operates a voluntary registry: it reviews a school’s curriculum against its Registered Yoga School standards, and it requires registered schools to hold their own anti-harassment, code of conduct, grievance, retaliation, attendance, and refund policies. The policies on this page are ours, adopted to meet that requirement.
Yoga Alliance also publishes a Code of Conduct that applies to registered schools and teachers, and runs a grievance process for reports about its members. You can raise a grievance with Yoga Alliance directly at yogaalliance.org.
To be clear about what registration does and does not mean: Yoga Alliance registration is not a guarantee by Yoga Alliance about your personal safety on a course, and Yoga Alliance is not a regulator. Responsibility for your safety and fair treatment while you are with us rests with World Peace Yoga School.
Deposits, cancellations, deferrals, and refunds are covered in full in our refund policy.
If any part of these policies is unclear, ask us before you book. We would rather explain it now than have you find out later that it mattered.
