Journey into the wild

Discover the Stillness Within

Leave behind the noise of everyday life and enter a world of sacred rivers, ancient caves, forest trails, mountain meadows and Himalayan peaks.

Antar Yatra — Wild Himalayan Retreat is a spiritual journey for yoga practitioners, meditation lovers, mountain enthusiasts and nature seekers who wish to experience the Himalayas with awareness and reverence.

Beginning in Rishikesh, the spiritual home of yoga, we spend a day immersed in meditation, mindful movement and the sacred atmosphere of the Ganga. We then travel into the Garhwal Himalayas, exploring the temple town of Ukhimath, the serene waters of Deoria Tal, the meadows and forests of Chopta, and the sacred mountain path towards Tungnath and Chandrashila.

Throughout the journey, yoga and meditation are not simply scheduled activities. They become ways of experiencing each place: breathing with the mountains, walking with awareness, eating mindfully and finding moments of silence in the natural world.

Arrival in Rishikesh

Arrive, settle and become present

Participants arrive in Rishikesh and transfer to the retreat accommodation. After check-in, there is time to rest, meet fellow travellers and become familiar with the surroundings.

In the evening, we gather for a welcome circle to introduce the intention of Antar Yatra, share practical information and prepare for the days ahead.

A gentle meditation and short breathing practice help us transition from travel into retreat life.

A Day of Yoga, Sacred Caves & Ganga Aarti

Silence, devotion and inner awareness

We begin the morning with traditional Hatha yoga, pranayama and meditation. The practice is accessible to different levels of experience and focuses on grounding the body and calming the mind.

After breakfast, we visit Mauni Baba Cave, a quiet spiritual site associated with the practice of mauna, or conscious silence. Here, we spend time in respectful contemplation, mindful breathing and meditation, subject to access and local conditions.

Following lunch and a period of rest, we explore the spiritual atmosphere of Rishikesh. In the evening, we visit the banks of the Ganga to witness the Ganga Aarti, a devotional ceremony of lamps, chanting and prayer.

We conclude the day with a nourishing vegetarian dinner and a short evening reflection.

Journey into the Garhwal Himalayas

From the sacred river to the mountains

After morning yoga, breakfast and a final packing check, we depart Rishikesh for the Himalayan region.

The road journey takes us through the beautiful valleys of Uttarakhand, with a planned stop at Ukhimath, an important spiritual town associated with the winter worship of Lord Kedarnath.

We continue towards Sari village and undertake the trek to Deoria Tal. The forest trail leads to a serene mountain lake, where the surrounding peaks can be reflected in the water when conditions are clear.

We spend time in mindful observation, quiet meditation and nature appreciation before returning to our accommodation according to the confirmed route and daylight. The day concludes with dinner, a mountain briefing and rest.

Deoria Tal to Rohini Bugyal

Walking meditation and the living forest

We begin with gentle stretching, breath awareness and breakfast before preparing for the mountain trail.

The planned route continues from the Deoria Tal area towards Rohini Bugyal, a beautiful meadow surrounded by forest and mountain scenery. This is a longer trekking day, passing through woodland and natural viewpoints.

Along the way, we practise walking meditation, take mindful rest breaks and observe the changing landscape. Our guide sets the pace and chooses the route according to weather, trail conditions and the group’s ability.

After the trek, we settle into the planned overnight accommodation, enjoy a warm meal and allow the body to recover.

Overnight: Pre-arranged trail accommodation or a suitable guesthouse, depending on the confirmed route

Chopta, Tungnath & Chandrashila

The sacred mountain path

The day begins early, with tea, a light breakfast and preparation for the ascent.

We travel to the Chopta trailhead and begin the trek towards Tungnath, one of the revered Shiva temples of the Himalayas. The route offers forest views, mountain scenery and opportunities to pause for conscious breathing and quiet reflection.

If the temple is open and the trail is safe, we visit Tungnath and continue towards Chandrashila for those who are fit, adequately acclimatised and comfortable with the conditions. The summit extension is optional — participants who prefer a gentler day can remain on a lower section of the trail with the designated group support.

After the descent, we return to the accommodation for rest, dinner and a closing mountain meditation.

Nature, Integration & Return

Carry the mountains within

We begin with a gentle yoga practice and meditation, followed by breakfast.

Depending on weather, road conditions and the group’s energy, we enjoy a short nature walk or visit another nearby viewpoint before starting the return journey towards Rishikesh.

During the drive, we leave space for rest stops and a simple reflection on the experiences of the retreat.

On arrival, the group gathers for a closing circle, where participants may share what they have discovered through yoga, meditation, silence and nature.

This retreat combines spiritual practice with genuine mountain exploration. Some days involve long drives, uneven forest trails, sustained uphill walking and changing weather. It is best suited to participants who enjoy nature and are comfortable with moderate physical activity.

The programme will remain flexible so that safety, rest and the quality of the experience take priority over completing every planned destination.

Important Mountain Information

The Tungnath and Chandrashila section is dependent on seasonal opening, snow and trail safety. The Deoria Tal–Rohini Bugyal crossing is a substantial trek and requires a qualified local guide, suitable conditions and appropriate overnight arrangements. If conditions are unsafe, the route will be shortened or replaced with a safer alternative.

The final itinerary, accommodation, transport, inclusions and price will be confirmed before bookings open.

Authentic Himalayan tradition, not a watered down tourist course. The anatomy classes alone were worth the trip.
