What Is Yogic Diet?

A balanced and nutritious diet is imperative for physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Yoga’s approach to a healthy diet begins with the belief that the body is made of five elements and that the food we eat also contains five elements and has six tastes. When one consumes food that contains each of these elements, it constitutes a balanced diet or yogic diet. The whole science of Ayurveda is based on these principles.

Everyone has different tastes and this is not out of habit but because of what actually the body needs. Consuming food without proper knowledge of what the body needs creates a void for diseases. However, when we consume food that balances the prakriti, health improves.

Yogic food contains the proper nutrients that the body requires to grow and develop. Consuming too little or too much food can prove to be unproductive for our health, hence a holistic diet is a way to a healthy body. Yogis always avoid oily tamasic foods like alcohol, fried meat, eggs, etc. Avoiding such tamasic foods helps you to become more calm and composed.

A vegetarian or a healthy diet consists of green vegetables, fresh fruits, lentils, beans, and plant-based oils like coconut, mustard, peanuts, etc. This kind of food is easy to digest and makes us feel lighter, at peaceful, and conscious
